Tech and Healthcare M&A are still strong, but overall M&A is down

M&A deal activity is down slightly in the first three quarters of 2015 compared to 2014, and the outlook for the next 12 months is weaker than for the past three years, according to the Mid-Market Pulse published by Mergers & Acquisitions.  In a monthly survey of 250 transaction professionals and executives, asked about deal activity in the next three and 12 months, the 12-month composite score of 63.7 is lower than the three-month score of 70.5.

One exception is the technology sector (technology, media, and telecom).  Technology has a 12-month composite score of 85.3, which is higher than the 3-month score of 79.9.  Healthcare is the other sector that is still strong, but it may slow down.  The 3-month composite score is a healthy 78.1, but the pros see growth slowing in the future, indicated by the lower 12-month score of 66.9.
